When I moved to Shoreditch I had nothing but a mattress. The windows rattled in the wind, but we dragged in whatever we could find. IKEA lasts a term at best, so we begged, borrowed and carried. Another dragged a chair from Camden. It looked like chaos, but that’s what made it ours. Old accent chairs carry memory, and knowledge.thinkingstorm.com we don’t need polish, we need real. I’ve hosted ten people on one sagging retro sofa, retro lounge chairs and the sofa was another character in the story.

Every warehouse flat tells the same story, and students rely on it. I stopped by Smithers looking for nothing, and everything felt alive, not plastic. we had to haggle, but it’s survived three house parties and armchair funky a flood. We’ve all dragged furniture through rain. it’s where life happens. Armchairs don’t mind if you fall asleep in them. Brand-new looks boring, but retro lasts. every stain means another night.

After exams and chaos, the broken toaster doesn’t matter, but you remember the sofa. So if you’re moving to London, forget the catalogue shine. Take home something with scars, and see how it shapes your memories.
